Finished Projects

Salam alaikum!

I have finished quite a few projects so I thought I would post pictures of them to share with you all! I really enjoyed working on these, and as much as I love having my little boy Ahmad, girls are so fun to prepare for! Alhamdulilah, Allah is blessing me with the best of both!

So I will start off with my most favourite project. It has been 5 years since I sewed up a quilt, and yes, there are mistakes in this one I made for Hamida. Mostly in the binding as I wasn't about to go tacking it down by hand! A mother of a toddler has no time for that. No, no, no.

Basically what I did, I pieced together the center block, called the "exploding pineapple", appliqued it on a square piece of fabric, and covered the applique seams with lace.

I then went about crocheting a back part. I really wanted this quilt to be unique and different, so I combined lots of colors and patterns hoping it would turn out, and alhamdulilah, I *think* I pulled it off. LOL Did I manage it?

Considering how quickly babies grow, I honestly didn't want to invest a ton of time sewing particular fancy dresses. So I stuck with a really easy, throw it together, pattern. The peasant dress pattern.

This maroony/burgandy dress with black and white sleeves were all re-purposed from old clothes of mine. :) The maroon part is this really slinky slippery jersey material that I felt would be so cool during the summer, so I didn't put elastic in the sleeves, just for the purpose of keeping it breathable for our hot Florida summer days. I think this dress will last for quite a while as it can be easily used as a shirt once Hamida is older.

Last but not least, here is a little vest I knitted. I didn't make it long sleeved as it doesn't get too cold here in Florida, so if it happens to get a little chilly in Hamida's first months of life, I will just put a long sleeved shirt underneath.

So these are the projects I have finished, and in all honesty I can't say I have anymore sewing that needs to be done. Well, I take that back, I do have a few burps clothes which need to be serged and such but nothing too exciting.

Inshallah all of you are well!

The Baby Shower

Two of my friends decided to surprise me with a baby shower. I never had one with Ahmad since my husband and I were both new to Florida and we really didn't know anybody.

It was very lovely and the decorations were very cute. There were several fun and entertaining games, great company, and good food. Alhamdulilah.

Alhamdulilah, I was gifted a lot of clothes, which was something we really needed. If we would have been expecting a boy, clothes wouldn't be an issue obviously. :) One of my friends that helped throw the shower, gifted me a moby wrap! Ya Allah, I was so happy about it. I know I will be putting it to good use, inshallah. She also gave us a store bought cloth diaper, my husband is so impressed by them he said he wants me to buy only store bought clothe diapers. I am not going to argue with that, haha, it just means less sewing and another item off of my list of to-do's.

It is really hard to imagine I will soon be 34 weeks pregnant! This pregnancy has gone by much faster then it did with Ahmad. I think it is because Ahmad keeps me so busy I don't have time to dwell on the pregnancy.

Did you find your other pregnancies to go faster then your first?

Co-sleeping

Salam alaikum sisters.

As my due date draws closer and closer (mind you I don't really do due dates, especially being surprised with a preemie, I have learned that babies come when babies want to) I have been getting ready for the new addition.

We co-slept with Ahmad, but we had a little bassinet beside the bed and once he out grew that, he started sleeping in our bed. Now we have a 2 year old and soon to be little one again and I was quite worried that somehow Ahmad would be able to tip over the bassinet if he were to try to peek over the rim to see his sister. So I started looking around online for ideas since I found out I was pregnant and I found this really smart idea on pinterest and this is what I came up with:

We have a queen size bed which is already plenty of room for the 3 of us, so the crib/daybed/co-sleeper is for the baby. Of course, I will be the one sleeping closest to her. I really love co-sleeping, you can quickly sooth you children and with a newborn/breastfeeding baby, it is so convenient during the night.

Do any of you co-sleep, if so, have you co-slept with more then one child at a time? What were your experiences?

Ahmad's Second Birthday!

Our Anniversary!
